Afraid to be Still

My children often fear stillness. They want to be running, hitting, talking…doing.

They struggle to just be.

I think in both them and myself, there is this subtle knowledge that if we remain still, perhaps our pain will catch up with us. Indeed, if we allow You to quiet our hearts, then all those difficult thoughts we are trying to avoid thinking about will catch up with us.

But I am Your daughter. You lead me beside still waters. You restore my soul. You have commanded me to be still and know that You are God.

Abba, would You quiet my soul?

Your Daughter.
